HOW TO BE PREPARED AND STAY SAFE OUTDOORS

To all the adventurers, wilderness campers, and backpack trekkers: are you prepared for emergencies that can happen outdoors? Some people are more accident-prone than others, but none of us are immune from scrapes, cuts, and other injuries.

The most effective way to prevent mishaps is to adequately prepare for the trip. Knowledge of the area, weather, terrain, limitations of your body, plus a little common sense can help to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.

Pack a first aid kit and emergency supplies! Your kit can prove invaluable if you or a member of your group suffers a cut, bee sting or allergic reaction. Pack antiseptics for cuts and scrapes, tweezers, insect repellent, bug spray, a snake bite kit, pain relievers, and sunscreen. Not all kits are the same, and yours should be tailored for its intended use. These options lend peace of mind and valuable tools in case of emergency.
